Full Moon

      Full Moon     6x8     Pastel

The full moon is always fun to paint especially when it appears low over the horizon. This is a small farm pond near my sisters home. I try to get out and paint there in every season. It's always alive with ducks and Red-Winged Black Birds.

Marsh Grass

                                  Marsh Grass     5x7      Pastel

This is a painting I did late last year just as the marsh grass was nearly waist high. There were so many different colored grasses but seeing them together, it was simply gold. I love painting the fall season, it remains always a favorite of mine.

Cabbage Butterfly

                              "Cabbage Butterfly", 5x7, Pastel  $50

Last weekend I saw so many of these white beauties on the Loosestrife and Queen Ann's Lace flowers.  Pastel seemed like the perfect medium for this painting.  I used Terry Ludwig and Great American Art Work pastels.

Vetch Field

                                   Vetch Field    5x7    Pastel

This is a 5x7 pastel painting done partly by memory and reference.  I was impressed by the understanding nature of the wildflowers, giving the vetch full rein to wander at will. It's a small flower, growing in long thin vines, very helpful to farmers as it's roots loosen the soil, so I've read. As an artist, I like the way it turns the field into a sea of blue and purple.
Enjoy the day!

Cattails

                                        Cattails     5x7      Pastel

There's a place that I paint every now and then
that has the most beautiful cattails as far as your
eye can see. I check their progress when I'm
passing by, to see how the present crop is growing
and where they are in their season.
I love their brown velvet color against the fluffy white tops.
I used Terry Ludwig pastels for this painting, they are some of my favorites.
I also tried the "dusting" technique, which worked great here!
You can see it on the Cattails that are in front.
